Program Notes
When I was asked to write a piece for the Troy Savings Bank Hall, I began imagining a group of musicians surrounding the audience, playing a soft murmur that gently resonated against all corners of the space. As I pictured myself listening to the work in the dimly lit hall, I had an image in which the ceiling of the hall opened up, and the sounds of the piece seemed to simply float across the night sky.
The work is scored for two violins and a cello placed around the hall antiphonally. It is lyrical and atmospheric, and meant to highlight the nuances of this magnificent space and acoustics.
