Reenactment (2017)
for gayageum and electronics
duration: 6 minutes
Program Notes
Reenactment is a work for gayageum and prerecorded sounds. Most of the prerecorded sounds are recordings of the gayageum itself, although some that you will hear will be electronically altered through various effects and manipulation. The electronic sounds are therefore a kind of reenactment of the acoustic instrument: certain moments are kept as authentic to the real sounds as possible, while other moments are squarely in the digital world. However, as the sounds of the acoustic gayageum, the recorded gayageum, and the electronically manipulated sounds of the gayageum all mix together in performance, boundaries between acoustic and digital will begin to blur.
